The Compassionate Experiment: Words Put !nto Action Welcome to our 'Heroes' issue! This issue of The Compassionate Experiment is dedicated to individuals who are using their celebrity status to help promote compassionate and green living. The further we have delved into our little Experiment, the more we realize that we are not alone, that there are tons of people who think like we do. People trying to make a difference in the world, leading by example. In the case of celebrity, these people have a huge audience they can reach, and the ones we promote today work hard, every day, to make this a better, and more Compassionate place for all of us to live. Just like all of us, I hope. Alicia Silverstone - Alicia Silverstone made Aerosmith cool again, that's what I think of when I hear her name. That was, until we purchased her book, The Kind Diet , which is a very open, and embracing book about eating kindly. She has an awesome website, check it: http://www.thekindlife.com/ ...

The Compassion Experiment (Day 78)

The Compassion Experiment: Words Put !nto Action Well, we are back after our vacation from the Matrix (a vacation of total isolation and bliss). It was nice to get away, and to be unreachable, but in some ways it's nice to be back too. You know how it is. And of course, we come home to this: Elderly women arrested for sticking sewing needles in sausages? http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/crime/article/834508--woman-78-released-after-arrest-in-sausage-tampering-case?bn=1 Really? As if anyone needs a reason to stop eating sausage, could there be a nastier food? I'm not sure. I guess foie gras, veal, and lamb would be my top three, as in 'top three meals that'll get you a ticket straight to hell!' We will continue on this path, and continue to educate people every day, with our words and our actions, and we will continue to fight for the animals, and to show people that there is life outside of a carnivore lifestyle. A great life. A happy life. As of today, The Compassio...

Issue #41!!

Photo by: B. Villemaire The Compassion Experiment: Words Put !nto Action. Well folks, here it is, Issue #41, and by issue, I'm not talking issues like @#$x, or even the nastiest oil spill on record, or hell, not even the issue of the G20 and our loss of rights of freedom (though we'll get to that later!). More important than all that, this is the 41st issue of The Compassion Experiment! Note : We will be on vacation for the next 10 days, so this will be the last blog for a while. It'll be great to disconnect from the Matrix, and be real, interacting humans for a change. As this will be the case, we are trying to unload a truckload of info into this last issue, to keep you coming back for more! The Good News: The Compassion Experiment is now funded in part by the Oakville and Milton Humane Society. Two Monday's from now I start my first shift as a paid employee of the OMHS, but, more importantly, I will continue all my volunteering there as well, as the animals still r...

The Compassion Experiment (Day 67)

The Compassion Experiment: Words Put !nto Action Well, 67 days in, I weighed myself again, and have lost 11 lbs. since we started this crazy journey. For the first time in 4 years, I am now under the 200 lbs. mark, and am only 8 lbs. from my ideal weight (due to my short stature). Not bad, not bad at all. To be honest, one of the tipping points for us towards becoming compassionate eaters, was the opportunity to lose some extra lbs., which I had in grand supply. Now that we're 67 days in, this is no longer what drives us, instead we've become a part of change, and The Compassion Experiment has become more than just words, but actions. Actions that in the past 67 days that have spoken loud. Case in Point: Dear Mic P, Thanks again for sending a letter to your MP asking them to address the flaws in Canada's farm animal transport system. Over 3,200 Canadians have sent letters so far and they're already helping. We've met with several MPs and many of them are supporti...

"Jumbo no like flowers!" The Compassion Experiment: Words Put !nto Action. Today's Parallel's 'Of Wisdom': "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." - GHANDI. 10 Reasons To Live A Compassionate Lifestyle: 1. Dairy products have been linked to heart disease, cancer (especially breast cancer), allergies, sinus trouble and migraines. 2. 80-90% of all cancer, cardiovascular disease and other degenerative illnesses can be prevented by converting to a plant based diet. 3. A vegetarian diet can prevent 97% of coronary obstructions. 4. A compassionate lifestyle can reduce your risk of food poisoning. 5. More than 90% of the toxic residues found in food come from animal by-products. 6. Dairy foods create excess mucous in the body, which can host cold and virus germs in the respiratory tract. 7. Meat contains bovine growth hormones, and has caused early sexual maturity in children. (note: 100 years...

The Compassion Experiment: Words Put Into Action Today's Parallel's 'Of Wisdom': "People often say that humans have always eaten animals, as if this is a justification for continuing the practice. According to this logic, we should not try to prevent people from murdering other people, since this has also been done since the earliest of times." Isaac Beshevis Singer This weekend was the official beginning to summer, with The Harbourside Organic Market and the Kerr Street Market reopening for business. The fact that we can easily walk to both, makes it really hard for us to ever move from this neighbourhood. The cost, selection, produce, services, everything is great, we can't complain one iota. Sure, the weather was a bit of a mess, but who cares, it was great, and exciting, all at the same time. This is when summer really begins! On top of this blog, we will now be blogging here: http://oakvilleorganicmarket.wordpress.com If you have animals in your hou...

The Compassion Experiment: Words Put Into Action So, it's almost summer time, and it's getting damn hot. Damn, damn hot, to be exact. And you need a way to cool down, right? What's the first thing that comes to mind? Beer! Okay, no wait, this is supposed to be a blog about ice cream. Beer and ice cream! If FREE BEER is your thing, you need to be at Trafalgar Brewery, 1156 Speers Road, Oakville, Ontario, for their Father's Day BBQ. It is FREE and open to the public. Did I mention it was FREE?! And OPEN TO THE PUBLIC! You can learn more about it here: http://www.alesandmeads.com/ One of the most enjoyable treats known to man, has to be ice cream. Ice cream treats, ice cream novelties, ice cream floats, ice cream cake... But what happens if you are a Compassionate eater, like we are? That means: No Ice Cream!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOO! So, you have to find alternatives. The easiest solution to the ice cream issue, is of course, the Freezie. Known worldwide for generations, Freezi...
