2011 has started with a bang. The good kind.

I was wrong about Simon.
I thought Simon would be a solitary cat, who would be friendly, but would spend a lot of time on his own.
Man was I wrong.
He is a type-A lap cat.
He's also way bigger than we thought, he's like a mini panther.
The siamese version, of course.

As sent to the OB:

A Postive Cat By-Law Response:

As a full-time staff member, and volunteer with the Oakville Milton
Humane Society, it has been impossible to ignore all the attention
that the new cat by-law has been receiving, whether positive, or
ignorant.
Every day, truly amazing people come through the doors of the OMHS,
and donate money, blankets, litter, food, and their time, but it can
never be enough.
Sometimes it feels almost hopeless, but when it comes to caring for
the animals of this town, money is the last thing on our mind. The
OMHS is all about giving the animals the best care, and love that we
can, and whatever happens financially, is something we just have to
deal with. Hence why we are so badly in debt.
But, people who have been implying that the new cat by-law is just a
cash grab, are way off the mark. And sadly, none of that money will be
going to us.
In a town as bountiful as Oakville, it seems such a shame that we get
no support financially, or otherwise, from the town itself, but I’m
hoping maybe something good can come out of all this attention, and
that a positive change can come about.
I encourage anyone who doesn’t fully comprehend the amount of time,
work and love that goes into running a shelter like the OMHS, to come
spend a day volunteering with us, it’ll change you.
To those who oppose this new by-law: please stop worrying about your
wallet, and start thinking with your heart.
Sincerely,
M

Stop the insanity!
It's Sunday night, and we're getting ready to close.
A lady comes in with a cat in a carrier, says she found it outside the AMC.
She fills out the paperwork, and leaves.
What's the first thing we do to a stray cat when it is brought in?
We check to see if it has a microchip.
It did.
The addresses matched.
Awesome.

Recipe Alert!

Potato Broccoli Soup.

Sound good?
Here it is!

You will need:

A large saucepan.
A Food processor.

And...
2 tbsp olive oil
1 onion, diced
3 cloves of garlic, minced
A squeeze of salt, a sneeze of pepper
6 cups veggie stock
2 large potatoes, cut into chunks.
4 cups chopped broccoli
1/4 cup fresh dill

Saute the onion over medium heat, until softened.
Add the garlic, black pepper, salt and cook until tasty looking.
Pour in the vegetable stock and add the potatoes.
Cover and bring to a boil.
Once boiling, lower heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
Add broccoli and cook for 15 more minutes.
Once cooked, blend, but keep it chunky.
Add the fresh dill, and let sit for 10 minutes.
Serve with tasty buns for extra goodness.

Lot's of exciting things coming up, and we'll keep you informed as always.
Thanks for all the support, everyone!
