The Compassion Experiment Day 162

A year ago, this cat was sitting in a cage at the OMHS, waiting for a new home.
Now look at him.
Can you say, happy ending?
Good for you Stash!

Now the good news:
(Okay, there is a ton...)
On Monday all the cats from the trailer at the OMHS were transferred into Room C (which had been closed to the public for over a year), and the room will be open for Critters Gone Country which will be held this Sunday, Oct 3rd, at the baseball diamond beside the OMHS.
From this point on, the room will be open to the public, in addition to Rooms A and B. This is very exciting!
I was so happy to put all those healthy, happy cats in there. (I didn't do it alone, all the usual suspects were there, and it went smooth).
This Sunday, October 3rd, please come out and support the animals, and the OMHS.
It's the cool thing to do, didn't you know?

October 2nd is World Vegetarian Day.
I did not know this.
For those who can make it, there will be a Totally Fabulous Vegan Bake-Off at the Harbourfront Community Centre from 2-4:30.

In honour of World Vegetarian Day, and the Bake-off, we will give you the secret to 'Cracking the Egg Code', meaning: How to remove eggs from your baking.

1. Flax Seeds - 1 tbsp Flax seeds plus 3 tbsp of Water = 1 Egg
Works well in things like Oatmeal, Cookies, Pancakes, and whole grain items like Muffins and Quick Breads.

2. Silken Tofu - 1/4 cup blended silken tofu (vacuum packed extra firm works best) = 1 Egg
Works best in dense cakes and brownies.

3. Ener-G-Egg Replacer - 1/1/2 tbsps + 2 tbsp water, mixed well = 1 Egg
Works best in cookies, and desserts that are meant to be crispy.

4. Ripe Bananas - 1/2 banana blended well until smooth or mashed well = 1 Egg
Works well in Muffins and Quick Breads. Use in baked goods where taste won't be intrusive, like brownies.

Now that you know the secret, please give it a try and let us know what you think!

Happy Day!
We were sent a 'Neat Recipe', check it!

Hi all,

I tried this new recipe and thought you might like it:

Broccoli Slaw

Julienned broccoli stalks (what a great idea - usually i just get rid of it....)
Julienned carrots
A bit of red cabbage

Dressing:

1/4 cup miracle whip (veganese for the compassionate eater)
1+1/4 tsp vinegar (i used white, but you can also use cider or wine)
2 tsp sugar
1 tsp mustard (i used prepared but you can use dijon also)

It was yummy.
Cheers!

Dr. J

On Tuesday I had an orientation shift at Cats' Castle, and have another one planned for Monday night after my shift at the OMHS.
I have been extremely impressed by R and K's attentiveness to the cats, and their big hearts.
I will do a feature on Cats' Castle in the upcoming weeks.

When it rains, it pours, and these days we're dripping wet.

Stay tuned, things are getting better everyday, this can happen to you too!

Animals saved today: 4
Animals saved to date: 632

Note: we realize these numbers are not a true representation, but in our minds, this helps to visualize the damage we are causing when we eat animal by-products.
