The Compassion Experiment (Day 103)

We finally made it to The Donkey Sanctuary!

It was a brutally hot day, I'm talking hot as f@#$! In fact, I almost passed out from the heat a couple times.
We had learned about the place at the OMHS General Meeting, and it sounded amazing, so we made the drive out to Guelph.

The Donkey Sanctuary is: 'a refuge for donkeys, mules and hinnies who have been neglected or abused, or who can no longer be cared for by their owners.'
Their website says: 'The Sanctuary is 100 acres of tranquility, in which we strive to live in peaceful harmony with the animals we have rescued. It is our heartfelt mission to ensure the animals who come to live out the remainder of their lives with us are surrounded by love, dignity, and the respect they so richly deserve.'

No words can really describe how serene it was being there. The place was packed, and there were tons of families and field trips going on, yet it was totally peaceful and relaxing, and all the animals were treated with the upmost respect by everyone.
At The Donkey Sanctuary you get to interact with more than just donkeys, there are mules, goats, and lambs, just hanging out, waiting to be brushed, or pet, it was a trip.

The DSC is only open on Wednesday's and Sunday's, 10-4, so there is only a small window of opportunity to be there. We realize with everyone's hectic schedules, making it out for either day might be a little difficult.
But the thing is, it's totally worth it!
More than worth it actually, because you are supporting an awesome cause. And most importantly your family gets to spend time with the animals, on their own terms, and you will leave with a whole new respect, for these intelligent and gentle creatures.
Please find some time to take your family, or just yourselves, to The Donkey Sanctuary, you won't regret a minute of it!

Animals saved today: 3
Animals saved to date: 386

Note: we realize these numbers are not a true representation, but in our minds, this helps to visualize the damage we are causing when we eat animal by-products.
