The Compassion Experiment (Day 9)

The Compassion Experiment: is a blog about converting to a more compassionate lifestyle.

The crowd at the Green Living Show was awesome. Everyone was so nice, and we were impressed at the variety of people who were there. We were especially excited to see a lot of older people who really do care about the planet.
But, here's my big rant:
As I'm standing around, holding Beth's purse as she tries on tons of amazing shirts, jackets, dresses, I can't help but look around for something cool for myself. And here's the problem, there is nothing. There were a ton of awesome booths selling amazing green products, but not one of them had anything geared towards men. Or, at least overweight men who want to support the green movement, without having to wear t-shirts clearly designed for women.
The majority of the people at the show are couples, and there are a lot of men, holding purses, just like me.
I know a lot of men out there who would love to support all these amazing causes, yet there is no market for this?
I can't be alone in thinking this way, can I?

We got an email from our good friend Adrian:

"I just read that Turkey hunt bit, is that for real? I didn't think Turkeys would be anywhere near Oakville. It is great they are but why would they promote killing them. I think any type of wildlife in the area would be looked at as a privilege and would be promoted in a positive way. It's mating season for Turkeys and they are putting on great displays for the ladies of the species and that should be looked at as something of interest to watch not to shoot."

Thanks Adrian, we agree with you 100%.

As promised, here is a delicious recipe for fluffy, compassionate pancakes!

1 1/2 cups of flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 tablespoon sugar
1 1/2 cups soy milk (or water)
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Mix the dry ingredients together and then stir in the wet ones.
Pour onto pan with a nonstick surface and cook slowly over medium heat, flipping once when the edges begin to bubble and brown.
(Does anyone really need instructions on how to cook a pancake?!)
Add fruit, and syrup, and enjoy!

I'm happy to announce that I got the green light to do a documentary on our friend Cindy, who does an amazing job running CARE. I'm thankful for the opportunity, and will make it the best documentary ever! Wrote the music yesterday, though we won't start shooting for a couple weeks.

Things are moving along nicely, and everyone has been so supportive of The Compassion Experiment. We are in this for the long haul, and hope that all of you will be along with us for the ride.

Thanks for all your support, please keep sending in your recipes!
