The Compassion Experiment: It's not a blog, it's a Blitter. Too short for a blog, too long for a Twitter. Man, I love these guys! Check out The Animal Liberation Front, and their articles/videos about frois gras, how it is produced, and why people SHOULD NOT EAT IT. Note: The images may be gory, but that's reality, and people need to see this stuff to truly believe it is wrong. http://www.animalliberationfront.com/ALFront/Actions-Canada/FoeiGrasInMedia.htm I love their pictures of people in ski masks, hugging bunnies. Awesome. Please show them some support. Here is the article from the Globe and Mail about animal cruelty and the lack of legal repercussions. "Inspection records show animals arriving to slaughterhouses dead or diseased, with few repercussions for transporters". And the list goes on, check it out: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/canadian-standards-for-farm-animal-transport-dangerously-lax-report-says/article1589007/ In the last couple d...

The Compassion Experiment: It's not a blog, it's a Blitter. Too short for a blog, too long for a Twitter. Caught this on the news last night: http://www.am980.ca/channels/news/local/Story.aspx?ID=1236352 Here is the gist: There are a lot of sick people out there. People who don't care about animals the way you and I do. People who like to torture and kill animals, for no reason at all, but for kicks, and because they can't handle their booze. What kind of person breaks into a petting zoo and kills animals? Answer: A couple of sick @#$%'s, that's who. This @#$% drives me nuts. The story also references a swan beating as well. The swan was defending her young, and was beat to death. Again, for no reason. These kind of things are irritating, aggravating and sad, all at the same time. But, it is also a reminder, that kids need to be brought up to respect animals. Nothing can be done now, the animals are dead. But their legacy can live on in the way people raise the...

Not for profit The Compassion Experiment: It's not a blog, it's a Blitter. Too short for a blog, too long for a Twitter. Last night was the Sip and Savour, which took place at Coriander Green (Best Indian food in Oakville!). The event is held to bring awareness to the Organic Market, which will be starting Saturday June 19. At the Sip and Savour, the organizers bring together the best chefs in Oakville, and challenge them to make amazing and tasty dishes, with fruits and vegetables grown by the vendors of the Organic Market. And let me tell you, it rocked! Coriander Green's own chef, Chef Harminder stole the show with his hot and spicy sweet potatoes. We had to go back for seconds. Cucci Restaurant ran a close second with their amazing green soup, content was weird and unknown (ed.note: "The green soup was made from stinging nettles, a common weed- which we obtained from our farm Baba link" (thanks Susan)), but beyond delicious. Found myself licking out the cup. ...

The Compassion Experiment: It's not a blog, it's a Blitter. Too short for a blog, too long for a Twitter. Everyday we learn something new, about amazing companies, run by people who truly care. Case in point: Green Pens. Green Pens are 100% biodegradable and contain a biological seed. When the ink is depleted, take out the ink, and plant the pen in the garden. In a few weeks, a flower or vegetable plant will grow. The pen will decompose in about 8 months and will become fertilizer. Very, very cool. You can learn more here: http://www.greenpen.ca Here are some natural ways to get rid of garden pests: To get rid of weeds, you can use boiling water or vinegar. If you pour boiling hot water on your weeds, they will wither and die. You can also use vinegar, but because it is an acid, you have to replace the soil. If you have problems with slugs, you can use copper to get rid of them. When the slug slime comes in contact with copper, it causes an electric shock. You can find cheap c...

Not for Profit Things I didn't know: (Actually, this category could go on forever). How about... More things I didn't know : This is the scariest thing I've read in a long time. http://www.nasa.gov/topics/earth/features/earth-20100301.html The Feb. 27 magnitude 8.8 earthquake in Chile may have shortened the length of each Earth day. It happened while the Olympics were on. It didn't get too much coverage. And all the earthquake did, was knock the earth off axis!! Question: Why has there been no rush to clean up BP's mess? Answer: It's in no man's land. A British oil company, using an American drilling rig, in the Gulf of Mexico. No one can claim the ocean as their property. When the Spanish arrived in North America, The Indians were baffled by them buying up all the land. "No one can buy land," they said. They were right. And if you think about it, it really doesn't make sense. These are links to stories with muckraking details about the disast...

Not for profit. The Compassion Experiment: It's not a blog, it's a Blitter. Too short for a blog, too long for a Twitter. Man, who knew gardening was so tough on the body. I ache. I feel like my back is out of joint, and my knees are rubber. From gardening. I find this quite disturbing. Today I'll walk down the road to the Community Garden (Oakville Arena site), and pick some lettuce and spinach. On Sunday, after we helped out with the cutworm situation, we left with our hands full. We took dill, and replanted it here. And two violet's, which have survived the transplant and are flourishing. This is the payoff for trying something new. We are amazed at all the new and fantastic opportunities that keep coming up, now that we have our eyes open to new ideas and a new way of life. We keep meeting new people, smart people, people who care about animals, and people who love life. And people of all ages. It's actually quite unbelievable and hard to put into words really....
