The Compassion Experiment (Day 61)

The Compassion Experiment: Words Put Into Action

So, it's almost summer time, and it's getting damn hot.
Damn, damn hot, to be exact.
And you need a way to cool down, right?
What's the first thing that comes to mind?
Beer!
Okay, no wait, this is supposed to be a blog about ice cream.
Beer and ice cream!

If FREE BEER is your thing, you need to be at Trafalgar Brewery, 1156 Speers Road, Oakville, Ontario, for their Father's Day BBQ.
It is FREE and open to the public.
Did I mention it was FREE?!
And OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!
You can learn more about it here:

One of the most enjoyable treats known to man, has to be ice cream. Ice cream treats, ice cream novelties, ice cream floats, ice cream cake...
But what happens if you are a Compassionate eater, like we are?
That means: No Ice Cream!!!!
NOOOOOOOOOOOO!
So, you have to find alternatives.

The easiest solution to the ice cream issue, is of course, the Freezie.
Known worldwide for generations, Freezie's still kick ass after all these years, and still remain 100% animal free.
Don't like the way Freezies cut into the sides of your mouth?
Try our new favorite, Chapman's Lolly Rockets, hot damn, they are delicious, and come highly recommended.

People have been working on alternatives to ice cream for years, and in the case of Tofutti, it has been almost 40.
We enjoy snacking on their Tofutti Cuties, and find that they easily replace ice cream sandwiches, and if you fed them to someone who didn't know they were made from tofu, they would never, ever know.

Found this on their website, thought I'd pass it along:

COMPASSIONATE JALAPENO POPPERS

12 jalapeño peppers, sliced in half lengthwise, tops and seeds removed
8 oz. TOFUTTI Better Than Cream Cheese
1 Cup soy milk
1 Cup flour
1 Cup breadcrumbs
Oil for deep frying

Fill the jalapeño peppers with the TOFUTTI Better Than Cream Cheese.
Put the soy milk and the flour into two separate bowls. Dip the stuffed jalapeños into the soy milk and then into the flour, making sure that they are well-coated. Allow the coated jalapeños to dry for about 10 minutes.

Dip the jalapeños into the soy milk again and roll them through the breadcrumbs. Allow them to dry then repeat the process to ensure that the entire surface of each jalapeño is coated.

In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat the oil to 370°F. Deep fry the jalapeños for about 3 minutes or until golden brown then transfer them to paper towels to drain.

Yesterday, a good friend of The Compassion Experiment told me that his favorite way to cook asparagus, is in butter, covered with cheese and bacon.
Left me speechless.

We hope that people are starting to realize that in today's day and age, there are so many alternatives out there for people to eat compassionately, it is no longer a struggle, nor should it be.
Once you start seeking out a solution, the problem will solve itself.

Animals saved today: 4
Animals saved to date: 195

Note: we realize these numbers are not a true representation, but in our minds, this helps to visualize the damage we are causing when we eat animal by-products.
