The Compassion Experiment (Day 16)

The Compassion Experiment: It's not a blog, it's a Blitter. Too short for a blog, too long for a Twitter.

A real issue with compassionate eating, comes in the form of 'myths', half-truths passed down the line, to people just looking for an excuse not to change.
The one I'm thinking of right now, is the one regarding soy milk and it's connection to the rise of estrogen levels in frequent users.
Has this one been proven? There are proofs for both sides of the story, so who do you believe here? It would be nice to be able to point to soy milk as the reason for my luscious man-boobs, but alas, that has more to do with a pizza and dessert addiction.
Here's what I've found in my research. Too much soy isn't good for anyone, young or old. It's not bad, at all, you just shouldn't over do it. Making things harder, of course, is the fact that most non-meat products, and meat substitutes are made of soy.
There are quality products made out of rice, and other things, but soy is the underlying factor in virtually anything compassionate.
So, what do you do?
Everything in moderation, isn't that what they say?
If that was so easy, we wouldn't be doing The Compassionate Experiment in the first place. It is our inability to moderate our consumption of all things yummy (see: ice cream, butter, eggs, and CHOCOLATE!), that has led us down this path in the first place.
No regrets, of course, because this experiment has grown far beyond anything we could have expected when we started it, but if I had a little more self-control, we wouldn't have done this experiment in the first place.
The animals can thank us later.

As promised, here is what I could find out about the organizations who help run the open space garden on the property of the Oakville Arena:

Oakville Community Foundation is a locally run charitable foundation whose purpose, promise and passion since 1994 has been Community Vitality. Over the past 14 years they have connected donors to community needs and opportunities and helped them invest in building strong and resilient places to live, learn, work and play. Check them at www.thecfo.org

Oakville Green is Oakville’s largest residents’ association that has been working for almost a decade to protect our environment, promote sustainable planning and make sure that new development pays for itself. Check them at oakvillegreen.com

Here is a great link to the Oakville Parks and Open Spaces, it includes locations, lists, and a form. Pretty informative actually.

In the upcoming days we'll have more great recipes for you, and an introduction to some awesome products, so stay tuned in.
It's the cool thing to do, didn't you know?!

Some of our cats could afford to have their own compassion experiment. See: Grace and Tito.
